Who Moved My Cheese
This is a cute, small book about four characters two mice and two little people who live in a maze searching for cheese. In the story, cheese is a metaphor for what we want in life: joy, meaning, love, etc. The book shows how awareness, proactive behavior, and acceptance help us move forward and take beneficial, forward looking actions.
At first, all four characters find a large stash of cheese in Cheese Station C. Sniff and Scurry the two little mices are alert and quick to notice changes, while Hem and Haw the two little humans grow comfortable and take the cheese for granted. One day, the cheese is gone, it has been moved. Sniff and Scurry immediately enter the maze to search for new cheese. Hem reacts with fear and resistance, refusing to leave, while Haw hesitates at first but gradually overcomes fear and ventures into the maze. Along the way, Haw writes motivational messages on the wall, such as “Change Happens. They Keep Moving the Cheese”, “Adapt to Change Quickly. The Quicker You Let Go of Old Cheese, The Sooner You Find New Cheese.” Eventually, Haw discovers a new, even bigger stash of cheese at Cheese Station N, where Sniff and Scurry are already enjoying it.
The story uses these four characters to show different ways people respond to change. The mice act on instinct, adapting quickly and without overthinking, while the little people reflect how humans often resist change, fear the unknown, or learn to adapt with time and effort.
Change is inevitable, and rather than resisting it, we benefit most by accepting it, staying aware, and taking proactive steps. Life is always evolving, and by embracing change as a journey and exploring new possibilities, we can grow and find new opportunities.
