Reflection: Walking the Terrain
Some of life really is luck. Two people can seem similar yet start from completely different floors. “Work hard = lucky” is really about putting in effort it doesn’t remove unchangeable challenges. It means saying yes to opportunities, staying visible, keeping yourself in the room, building the capacity to act, and becoming more likely to recognize an opportunity when it appears. So effort doesn’t equal outcome, it increases your surface area for luck.
When life gets hard, it’s easy to slip into a victim mindset wish the situation were different. But that doesn’t help. Instead, take responsibility for what you could have done differently, identify what needs improvement, and work on it. Ask: This is the terrain now, how do I move wisely on it? Given the hand I was dealt, what kind of life can I build that feels true to me? Not better than others just honest, alive, and yours.
