Reflection: Smurfs
I watched Smurfs 2025 on a very long flight, after not watching any movies or TV shows for more than two years. That fact alone probably sounds strange even unbelievable to many people. Yet I found myself laughing for almost two hours straight, so much that other passengers might have thought I was a little crazy, or maybe they felt like laughing too.
From a societal point of view, this movie is often considered poorly designed, and people frequently say, “kids like it.” That made me smile, maybe I am a kid in that sense. Kids respond to honesty, playfulness, and emotional clarity. Without needing to label or justify it, I simply found this movie enjoyable. It is musical, playful, full of kindness, sincere. It doesn’t rely on irony or cynicism, the humor is simple, the emotions are direct, and the music feels like a natural expression of joy. In a cultural moment that often rewards darkness or clever detachment, this film chooses warmth and openness instead. For me, Smurfs 2025 wasn’t about being impressed, it brought me genuine joy on a long flight, and that was more than enough.
